Biography
Dr. Richard Esposito works in Southern Company's Research & Environmental Affairs Department in the Technology Controls Group. He is Southern Company's technical lead and project manager for the company's commercialization initiative related to geologic sequestration. Richard is involved in numerous research and development contracts and DOE grants related to the science and technology of coal energy. This research focus has been on the commercialization of CCS technologies in saline formations and the use of CO2 in enhanced energy production. Richard has attended numerous technical training courses, energy conferences, and has published extensively on the key research efforts that Southern Company is doing in the area of CCS. Prior to Southern Company, Richard worked as an environmental regulator in the Water Division at the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. Richard has a PhD in Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a MS and BS in geology from Auburn University. Richard is a Professional Geologist in numerous states and has been appointed by the Governor of Alabama to serve of the Alabama Board of Licensure for Professional Geologists. He is an adjunct engineering and geology instructor at Samford University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
