Biography
Kimberly Sams is the Assistant Director of Geoscience Programs for the Southern States Energy Board (SSEB). SSEB is a regional organization devoted to enhancing economic development and the quality of life in the South through innovations in energy and environmental policies, programs, and technologies with a Board composed of governors and state legislators from 18 states and territories and a Federal Representative appointed by the President of the United States. Kimberly's tenure with SSEB began nearly 18 years ago, during which she has focused on numerous energy and environmental topics including coal and advanced power systems, nuclear waste transportation planning, environmental remediation, freshwater quality and quantity studies, and recycling market development. She currently serves as the technical program manager of the Southeast Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership, a $142 million U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) and industry-funded program established in 2003 to determine the most suitable technologies, regulations, and infrastructure needs for carbon sequestration in the Southeast. SECARB currently is validating the technology options through carefully executed field projects through 2017. Kimberly's expertise is in the areas of technical program research and development, program management and team coordination, and communication/outreach. Ms. Sams holds a B.S. degree in Geology from Georgia State University and is a member of the Geological Society of America and the Atlanta Geological Society.
